Immigrant Narratives: Evidence from Facebook Expat Groups
Abstract
"This project uses text data from Facebook groups composed of expatriates in France to explore immigrants’ own narratives of integration, vulnerability, and adaptation. In contrast to traditional survey-based approaches, we focus on unstructured posts within social support communities. We combine traditional text analysis techniques with large language models to analyze over 20,000 posts from more than 60 expatriate Facebook groups, identifying country-specific lexical patterns, extracting implicit signals, and classifying narratives."
